Pan Slotted Self-tapping screws come with a sharp, piercing tip or a flat. The sharp-tipped screws are designed for drilling their own hole into softer materials such as wood and plastic so they do not need a pilot hole. Self-tapping screws have a wide range of thread patterns, and are available with almost any possible screw head design. Common features are the screw thread covering the whole length of the screw from tip to head and a pronounced thread hard enough for the intended substrate, often case-hardened. The hardened screws are for substance where the core is hard and the non- hardened screws are made where the application of screws is in softer materials like wood and plastic.
